Carey is a former high fashion model, who measures at nearly 5'10" was well-liked by American fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, a distinguished scientist, who was awarded the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a renowned geoscientist. In the course of his career Carey has been raised across the world. In her college years she started modeling in a part-time capacity and caught the eye to Ford model Agency representatives in New York. Following her move to France, where she briefly resided at Paris, Bordeaux and New York, she decided that she would return in New York and continue her education. In the next few months, Vogue, Glamour and various other magazines included her on the covers. She was a full-time student in New York University, obtaining the degree in Literature, which she earned while working on modeling assignments. Gradually she became interested in acting, and began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. She made her acting debut with a small part in the film 'Club Paradise' in 1986 with Robin Williams. She spends her free time doing white-water rafting, skiing, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
